Logos and design have undoubtedly gone beyond where they were initially meant to be. While conducting a recent study on logo design and the meaning it holds for entrepreneurs, I found out the correct logic behind logos and design. The research showed that logos are the main thing for entrepreneurs and businesses having an equal significance as their products or services. This clearly suggests that brand identity is not all about company names, products and / or services, a logo design enjoys being the benchmark of corporate identity on a par.

This extraordinary significance of a logo design makes logos and trademarks capable of creating hype on their own. Imagine what a logo can do without the help of massive advertising campaigns and conventional marketing gimmicks! A company logo displayed on a proper note in the proper places can still speak words that a complete advertising campaign might just be able to.

Further progress in the research study revealed more astounding facts about logos and design. Instead of the real products or services, the brand mark (logo design) makes the brand known in the market. So this is indeed very true that “A Logo Design Speaks a Million Words”. Brand marks are now becoming the actual identity of a company in comparison with their products and services and in some places, even their names.

Beginning its journey as a mere symbol associated with something greater in character and meaning, a logo design has now transcended into becoming the main identity in itself. It is fascinating to know that logo designs now have a discerning edge over actual brands / products in fact it was found in many cases that “A Logo Is the Brand Itself” and the company name has turned out to be a secondary affair.

• Shadows and Silhouettes or hidden logo design is another form that is referred to as trendy by some reviewers.

• Few logo design connoisseurs feel that wavy logos designs are more in fashion. I tend to differ from this notion but then, freedom of expression cannot be undermined here.

• Transparent logo designs are also used these days but not with that much fervour.

• Polka dotted logo design method is also an interesting trend. It is never out of fashion but rarely used by logos designers.

• Pixellated logo designs (a logo design based on symmetrical placement of pixels) are also getting the attention of designers as well as entrepreneurs.

• Incorporation of leaves or making leafy designs is common in modern day logo design industry.

• Ambigrams or flip flop logo designs. These are quite fascinating and a nice trendy way to display a company’s name or trademark.

This article takes a quick view of the logos design used for some currency units of the world usually referred to as currency signs.

* Euro sign € is the logo design for currency sign used for the euro, the official currency of the Eurozone in the European Union. It is in use since 1996 and the names of the 4 designers who developed the euro currency logo design have been kept secret.

* The US dollar logo design $ was first used in British North America where it was adopted as U.S. currency in 1785, together with the term “dollar” and the $ sign. The dollar sign is also used as logo design for many other currencies such as Mexican peso, Canadian, Australian and Singapore dollars, Nicaraguan córdoba, Tongan pa’anga, Brazilian real, Cape Verde escudo, Chilean peso etc.

* The currency logo design for the British pound is the symbol £ also used for the Italian lira with two slashes ₤ before the euro replaced the lira. A few other countries use the same symbol as their currency signs.

* The Japanese currency is called yen with the symbol ¥ as its logo design. It was first adopted in 1871 by the Meiji government.

* The symbol ₣ is the currency logo design for the French franc now replaced by the euro. The inception of the French franc is considered to be in the year 1360.

* The symbol 元 is the currency logo design for the Chinese yuán. It was first introduced during the late nineteenth century around 1889.
